Plain answers about what we collect and why.
The short version
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with anyone for marketing.
Services that run this site and send our email may process your information on our behalf. They do that work for us, not for their own use.
Votes
Voting is anonymous. You do not need to give a name or email to vote.
To count votes fairly, your browser keeps a random device identifier so one device is counted once per idea. It is not tied to your name.
If you choose to give a ZIP code, we use it only to count votes and sort them into broad county groups, such as Mecklenburg or Wake.
Comments and messages
Private comments are never displayed publicly.
If you give us your email or phone number, we use it only to reply to you or to send updates you clearly asked for.
Updates sign-up
If you sign up for updates, we use your email or mobile number only to send the updates you asked for.
Right now we are only collecting sign-ups. We are not sending updates yet.
We do not add you to updates because you sent a comment, a contact message, or a Run for Office note. You only get updates if you check the sign-up box.
You can reply STOP to texts to opt out, or ask us to remove you using the contact form.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see which pages people visit and which ideas get votes.
We do not put names, emails, phone numbers, or comments into analytics events.
Deleting your information
You can ask us to delete what you sent. Use the contact form on the About page and tell us the email address or mobile number you used.
